What the Character Library is
Your Character Library is a personal collection of saved characters tied to your account. Each saved character keeps its name, role, descriptions, and reference image URL. You can import any saved character into a new project with one click - name, description, approved reference image, all copied in automatically.
This is the feature that makes serial comics possible. Chapter 1 introduces Kira. When you start Chapter 2, you do NOT have to regenerate Kira, hope she looks the same, or manually re-describe her. You import her from your library and she is visually identical to Chapter 1 because the same approved reference image anchors every panel she appears in.
How to save a character
After you have approved a reference image for a character in any project:
- Go to the Characters view.
- On that character's card, click the ⭐ Save to Library button. It only appears after you have an approved reference image - there is nothing meaningful to save without one.
- A toast confirms the character is saved.
The character's full record is copied to your library: name, role, visual description, personality notes, consistency prompt, and the reference image URL. Your current project is NOT changed.
How to import a character
In any project's Characters view:
- Click 📚 Import from Library in the header action bar.
- A modal opens showing every saved character as a card with their reference image thumbnail, name, and role. Most recently used characters appear first.
- Click a character card or its Import button.
- The character is added to your current project immediately, with their reference image already locked in. No generation needed, no credits spent.
You can import as many characters as you need. Import Kira, Erasmus, and Quill all at once to continue the trilogy.
How the image stays identical
The library stores the URL of the approved reference image, which lives permanently in our R2 storage. When you import, the new project points at the same URL - not a copy, not a regenerate. GPT Image 1.5 receives the exact same reference image in Chapter 2 as it did in Chapter 1, so the face, build, and hair are anchored identically. Haiku's middleware restates the same outfit phrases from the saved description, so clothing stays consistent too.
The net effect: a reader opening Chapter 2 sees the same character they saw in Chapter 1. No uncanny-valley "similar but off" feeling. Same person.
Deleting characters from your library
In the library modal, each character card has a small 🗑 button. Click it to remove the character from your library. This does NOT affect any project that already uses them - deleting from the library only removes your ability to import them into new projects going forward.
What the library does not do yet
- Cross-project sharing. Library characters belong to you and are private to your account.
- Editing descriptions in-library. If you want to tweak a character's description, edit them inside a project and re-save to the library.
- Tagging or folders. Characters are currently sorted by most recently used only.
These are likely future additions. For now, the library is a durable, private, one-click reuse tool built for serial creators.
