Zed is a fast, collaborative editor that exposes MCP servers as context servers. Register AetherWave and Zed's assistant can pull generation tools into the conversation when your work needs media.

The AetherWave MCP server exposes 16 generation tools (music via Suno, image generation and editing, video generation, upscaling, background removal, reframing, and audio mastering) as native tools your agent in Zed can call. No SDK, no per-provider API keys, no polling loops to write. Every generation auto-saves to your AetherWave gallery on Cloudflare R2.

Quick facts

Step 1: Get your API key

Create a free AetherWave account and copy your API key (starts with aw_live_) from the Developer tab on your Profile page. New accounts get free starter credits, so you can test without spending anything.

Step 2: Add AetherWave to Zed

Add this block to Zed settings.json:

Replace aw_live_your_key_here with your real key, save, and reload Zed.

Step 3: Generate

Restart Zed and ask it to make something. For example:

Zed calls aetherwave_generate_music and aetherwave_generate_image in sequence and hands back finished, hosted URLs. You can check your balance any time with aetherwave_balance.

Notes for Zed

Zed uses a context_servers block in settings.json rather than mcpServers. Add the AetherWave entry below, save, and the tools become available to Zed's assistant.
