What this is
AetherWave runs a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. That lets an AI assistant like Claude call AetherWave's creative tools directly, on your behalf, against your own credit balance. You can ask Claude to generate a cover image, animate it, master a track, make a whole comic book, and more, without leaving the chat.
There are 31 tools in total, covering:
- Image: generate, edit, upscale, reframe, remove background
- Video: generate, upscale, reframe, remove background
- Music: generate (Suno)
- Audio: AI mastering
- Comic books: create a project, character references, script, drawing, page assembly, and a PDF, EPUB or CBZ download link
- Characters: list your saved UGC characters so a face stays the same across clips
- Merch: garment catalog, print-ready design files and product mockups (connect your own Printful store for two more tools that create products in it)
- Account: check credit balance, list models, list your gallery, check a long-running job
Every generation deducts from the same credit pool you use on the website, and outputs auto-save to your gallery.
Option 1: Connect in Claude with OAuth (recommended)
This is the simplest way, it needs no key, and it stays up to date on its own. Fixes and new tools reach you the moment they ship, with nothing to install and no version to track. For most people this is the right choice.
In Claude or Claude Desktop, open Settings -> Connectors -> Add custom connector.
Paste this URL:
https://mcp.aetherwavestudio.com/mcpClick connect. Claude sends you to AetherWave to sign in and approve a consent screen ("Allow Claude to access your AetherWave account").
Approve it. The 31 tools are now available in your chat.
That is it. Try: "List your image models, then generate a neon synthwave album cover."
Revoke access anytime under Profile -> Developer -> Connected Apps. Disconnecting immediately cuts off that app's access.
Option 2: API key + the npm package (local control, Cursor, Continue, scripts)
Choose this if you want the server running on your own machine, or you use a client that does not support OAuth connectors. The tradeoff is that you own keeping it updated: the package changes only when you update it.
To run the server locally or use a non-Claude client:
Generate an API key under Profile -> Developer (your first key includes free credits to test).
Add the server. For Claude Code:
claude mcp add aetherwave -e AETHERWAVE_API_KEY=aw_live_your_key_here -- npx -y @aetherwave-studio/mcp
The same key works in Cursor, Continue, or any MCP client, and for direct REST calls with the X-AW-Key header. Full details are on the Developers page.
The package is published as @aetherwave-studio/mcp on npm and listed across the MCP ecosystem, including the official MCP Registry, PulseMCP, and Glama (where it carries an A quality rating). So you can verify it from a directory you already trust before installing.
Credits and billing
Whether you use OAuth or an API key, generations spend from your normal AetherWave balance. Credits deduct only on successful delivery. Top up anytime on the Buy Credits page. There is no separate API plan or surcharge.
Generating music: two modes
Music generation works one of two ways, and the difference matters because the same field means different things in each. This causes more confusion than anything else in the API.
- You describe the song. Give a description and Suno writes its own lyrics to match. This is the default.
- You write the lyrics. Supply your own words plus a separate description of the musical direction, and your title is used as written.
Through the MCP tool, put your description in prompt and, if you have them, your
words in lyrics. The tool takes care of the rest.
Calling the API directly is worth understanding properly, because at that level
there is no lyrics parameter. In custom mode the lyrics go in prompt and the
musical direction goes in style. The developer reference shows both
request bodies in full.
Every generation costs 20 credits and returns two tracks, on every model and every plan.
The hosted connector is always current. If you connected with OAuth (Option 1 above), you are running the newest version at all times and never need to update anything. That is the main practical reason to prefer it.
⚠️ On npm, run the latest version. Older releases handled lyrics and titles
differently, and several are deprecated. The npm package updates only when you
update it, so if something behaves unexpectedly, check your version first. If you
launch it with npx, restart your client or clear the npx cache, which can serve
an older copy for some time after a new release.
Making a comic book
Nine tools, all named aetherwave_comic_..., run the same Graphic Novel Engine as the
Graphic Novel Studio, so an assistant can make a finished, lettered comic from one
request, for example: "Make me a 12-page Franco-Belgian adventure comic about a young
courier who flies the last airmail balloon over the Alps. All ages, under 350 credits."
The assistant creates the project and cast, draws and approves a reference image for each character, writes the script, draws every panel, assembles the pages and returns a download link. The book also appears in your Graphic Novel Studio.
What to expect, measured on a real 12-page book:
- Cost: 301 credits for 12 pages and 27 panels. Panels are 9 credits each, charged only when a panel succeeds; character references are 6 credits each; the script is charged on use (40 credits here). The up-front estimate assumes 4 panels a page, so it quoted 462.
- Time: about an hour. Panels are drawn one at a time, 1.5 to 6 minutes each, so the assistant starts the drawing and checks back rather than waiting.
- Stalled runs: if the drawing stops with panels left (for example during a site update), the status tool says stalled and the assistant simply starts drawing again. It picks up only the missing panels.
- Refused panels: the image filter occasionally refuses a panel. The assistant can reword that one panel's scene and redraw it.
- Download: the finished book comes back as a link to a PDF, EPUB, CBZ or a bundle of all three. The link lasts about a day, so save the file. A 12-page PDF is large (about 130 MB).
Troubleshooting
- "No API configured" or a tool fails right after connecting: disconnect the connector in Claude and reconnect to refresh the session.
- A generation says you are out of credits: check your balance (the
aetherwave_balancetool, or your profile) and top up. - Want to switch accounts: disconnect under Profile -> Developer -> Connected Apps, then reconnect with the other account.
- Your custom lyrics were ignored, or something behaves differently to the docs: you are most likely on an older npm package. Update to the latest, and if you run it with
npx, restart your client or clear the npx cache, which can hold an older copy. The hosted connector is always current, so this cannot happen there.
