Changing your name (artist name, username, band member names)

Your public artist name is your username, changed on the /profile page, with a 3 to 20 character limit and a once-every-30-days rule. Renaming a band or its members is a separate thing done in Soul Forge.

Which name do you mean?

Two different names get called "my name", and they are changed in different places:

Changing your username

Go to /profile, edit the Username field, and save.

The rules, all enforced when you save:

If you are inside the 30 day window the field will not let you save, and it tells you how many days are left. The only exception is your very first username: setting one for the first time is never restricted.

So pick carefully. A month is a long time to live with a typo.

What changes with it

Your username is your public identity, so changing it moves your profile address too: profiles live at /u/<username>, and the old link stops working. If you have shared your profile anywhere, the old link will need updating. Your tracks, credits, followers and files are untouched, because they belong to your account rather than to the name.

First and last name are separate fields on the same page. They are account details, not your public artist name, and they have no 30 day rule.

Renaming a band or a band member

This is not an account setting, and it is worth being straight about: there is no rename control for a band or its members. Soul Forge generates the whole identity (the name, the members, the philosophy, the collectible card) from a track you upload, and once generated those names are fixed.

What you can do instead:

Changing your own username does not rename any band you created, and the two are independent.

If the name you want is taken

Usernames are unique across the platform, so if it is gone, it is gone. The usual ways around it are a hyphen or an underscore, a number, or a slightly longer version of the name. We do not release or transfer a username that another account is using, including inactive ones.
