Looking for album cover ART instead? This page is about generating a new musical version of your song. If you want cover artwork made from your track, use the free album art generator - no account needed - or open Album Art Studio if you are signed in.
What a cover does
Upload a track. The AI listens to the first 30 seconds, keeps the melody, structure, and lyrics, and re-records it in whatever style you describe. Different vocal. Different production. Different genre if you want.
Classic use cases:
- Your original demo sung with a different voice
- A rock version of a ballad you wrote
- An acoustic version of a dance track
- A genre-swap experiment
How to do it
- Open Music Studio.
- Click the Cover tab (or the upload button in the prompt area).
- Upload your track. Accepted: MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG, up to 50 MB and 10 minutes.
- Wait for upload confirmation.
- Add a style prompt describing how you want the cover to sound:
"acoustic folk, fingerpicked guitar, warm baritone vocal". - Optionally edit the extracted lyrics - the AI transcribes what it hears; you can correct misheard words.
- Click Generate Cover.
What the AI actually hears
The first 30 seconds of your upload is the reference. Pick a file where the first 30 seconds represents the song. An 8-bar intro of drone before the melody kicks in will confuse the model.
The AI extracts:
- Melody line - the main vocal or lead melody
- Key and tempo
- Overall song structure (verse/chorus patterns)
- Lyrics (when vocals are clear enough)
It does not inherit:
- Your original mix or master
- The exact instrumentation
- The vocal timbre of the original singer
- The production style (that is what your style prompt controls)
What covers well vs. what does not
| Works well | Works poorly |
|---|---|
| Singer-songwriter tracks | Dense black metal |
| Pop, rock, folk, hip-hop, R&B | Experimental noise |
| Clear vocal lines | Heavily processed vocals |
| Simple arrangements | Orchestra with dozens of parts |
| Well-recorded demos | Field recordings, live crowd noise |
Pricing
Covers cost the same as a regular generation on whichever Suno model you pick. See models-and-pricing for current rates.
Troubleshooting
If the cover sounds nothing like your original, the problem is almost always in the first 30 seconds. Re-upload a version that starts at the most melodic point.
If the upload fails entirely, see audio-upload-issues.
