Separate entries, on purpose
An extend does not modify the take it came from. It is a new run with its own entry, which is what makes it safe to try a continuation you are unsure about.
It also means you can extend the same take twice and keep both branches rather than choosing before you have seen them.
The chain survives a reload
The chain is stored with the creation, including the order of the takes and which ones you approved. Come back to it later and it is as you left it.

No. The chain is stored on the creation record rather than only in the page, so it is still there when you return.
Do the individual takes stay after I render the chain?
Yes. The rendered chain is saved as its own video and the takes remain in your gallery.
